			<description><![CDATA[<span style="font-size: 14pt"><span style="font-weight: bold">PART TWO – Heritage</span></span><br>The earliest reference to these bicycle lawnmowers seems <br>to date to about <span style="font-weight: bold">1895 </span>when one was exhibited at the<span style="font-weight: bold"> New York <br>State Fair.</span> That story was syndicated and appeared in various <br>Australian newspapers.<br><br>This was never presented as an '<span style="font-style: italic">invention</span>' but as a '<span style="font-style: italic">novelty</span>'.<br>Some folks, in these modern times, seem to have forgotten that.<br><br><img src="https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.auhttps://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/images/jack/misc/bicycle_mower.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/><br><br>In the gallery below I include a <span style="font-style: italic">bicycle-sickle bar mower</span> reported in 1903. <br>So, these things are not so novel anymore.<br><br>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[Hello <span style="font-weight: bold">ODK </span>history lovers<br>I am an animal lover and I do not particularly love this story; but I record <br>it as a matter of interest. At least, it had a happy ending…<br><br>I came across it by chance, when researching a Melbourne company – <br><span style="font-weight: bold">Finlay Brothers</span> – who were important importers, makers, and sellers <br>of all sorts of machinery – push bikes, motor bikes, motor cars, and <br>garden machinery, including motor mowers.<br><br>Finlay Bros operated for more than half-a-century, from about 1900 <br>to the 1960s of the 20th Century. 			<description><![CDATA[An earlier example of a<span style="font-weight: bold"> Lawn Mower Barrow Attachment</span> was invented by Herbert Malcolm Mcneill,  from Whanganui, New Zealand.<br>A patent was filed on the 5th March 1919, NZ patent number 41389 granted and published on the 4th September 1919.<br>A USA patent was filed on the 23rd Sept 1919 and patent number US1338144A granted on the 27th  April 1920.<br><br>Again, do we know how successful they were and do any examples still exist ?<br><br>cheers<br>Alan<br><br><br>]]></description>
