I had no idea that these bases were exported to Australia.

They are reasonably rare over here, I guess most of them have rusted away.

You may be right on the cowling being changed as well
because the air filter cover is alloy.

Cheers
Mike.

Hello CyberJack, Thankyou for your response. Apologies for the very late reply, I don’t get on here too often. The wheels have the name “P Rodger Auckland” written on them. I no longer have this machine now, I have passed it on to a serious local mower collector who plans to open a museum close by here in Lemington Cambridge. I tried to donate it but he Insisted I take some dollars. Nice to see it go to someone that will further research and appreciate its history. Hopefully we may see more pics once he gets his museum established. Cheers. Gary.

Here in NSW there would be a bidding frenzy of they were put on EBay at a realistic price level. All you see up here are the insipid modern steel deck stuff they now want too much for as well. An illegal fraud that just goes on unpunished.

Opportunistic scum -tree is no oasis from the trash either with the notorious low balling and other various slimy tactics used by the populace.

Model 35: Yet another totally awesome Scott Bonnar

Hello Jack

After reading the bit about the split drum and the ability to slip the clutch on the 18-inch model, the Ransomes I used was definitely an 18-inch Model 5. Same handle bars, Villiers 2-stroke motor, crank handle, split rear drum. I would have used it until about 1961-2 when Dad bought the early model Scott Bonnar 35 with the square fuel tank. He bought the SB at the mower dealer in Northmead in Sydney very close to Howard Rotary Hoes - a Howard Junior Mk2 was also another machine I used!

Now to find one of these, as well as the other two to restore! I'll need a new shed soon.

I noticed another bloke on this site has recently posted an ad for a SB 35. They were a great mower.

Thanks for your interest and I look forward to seeing your history on them.

Kevin (Ruggers)
