I am looking into purchasing my first Scott Bonnar and have found a fairly priced Model 65 24". I was hoping with everyone's expertise on Scott Bonnars you could help answer a few questions I have to make sure I am making the correct decision with the Model 65.

1. I know the Model 65 is a lot heavier and harder to move around compared to say a model 45. But I have a simple rectangle front and back yard with a totaling size or roughly 600m2 of lawn. Do you think the Model 65 is too big for my lawn size? Should I be looking at something easier to move around?

2. The price for the Model 65's is a lot cheaper compared to the 45's. Is it possible for some guidance on what you would expect to pay for a machine in the condition photographed below? I just want to make sure I am not getting ripped.

Any other information that you want to pass on would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Corn,

Yes the 65's are definitely cheaper and that's for a good reason, they're not that popular due to their sizing and weight. As you said the 45 is the preferred weapon of choice and the preferred unit for the Flippers out there that are running rampant.


There are two variants of the Model 65, the one pictured which is the earlier variant and an absolute PITA to work on with the twin coned clutches and then the preferred second variant without those two massive clutch bodies.

The Supercuts and 65's are great for straight running while the 45 is far better for traveling around curves at clutch slipping slow speeds. The 65 can't have it's clutch slipped as does the 45 and this is what it's all about in today's landscaping designs.
