I'm at my wits end with a large bindi problem in the back yard so took the plunge with weed and feed product you apply with the hose that's been around for a long time.
I chose they most expensive brand as it was the only one with potassium and iron as.ingredients for the feeding part. I did an express research on my phone and an article mentioned those as important nutrients.

The photos were taken today just after application.

MF, i am sorry but you have bought into the biggest scam to ever hit lawn care.

Again, I am sorry to say that it probably won't touch your bindii problem, however you are in a sample group where it may have some affect. I will make a bad problem better but won't anywhere near solve it.

The main problem with it is the high amount of water going on at the same times as the herbicide simply washes it off. In my opinion, one way of potentially helping it is to put a decent dose of a naturally based surfactant in the spray bottle with the scotts mixture. A decent squirt of something like earth choice washing up liquid would suffice.

you have paid $25 for 42g of mcpa and 7g of dicamba, a bit of NPK and iron. thats where they get you

For next time (to really take out the bindii):

Apply the liquid fertiliser with the old weed and feed sprayer, spread the granular one as even as you can by hand and spray the weeder with the sprayer. Its time consuming and annoying with the manual sprayer but it is dead easy to knock up a walk behind sprayer with a few parts and an old edger frame (or even garden trolley)



As an example, I have been looking after next doors lawn (gone away for 2 months). Ever since it was installed in 2017 they have had bindii and oxalis/clover. I put down 60g/sqm of baileys 311, and followed up a week later with a spray of buffalo pro - all weeds knocked dead inside of 5 days.


I honestly hope it works for you - it definitely will have some improvement but no miracle

I'll view this as sating my curiosity first hand.

I just want to try it. Not expecting a magic carpet of lawn. My view is any noticeable improvement will be worthwhile.

I think its a right of passage - everyone has used weed and feed once.

Obviously you get some results (otherwise it wouldn't fly off the shelf) but if it is a weed free lawn you desire, the other stuff will go a lot further

I was going through the shed a couple of weeks ago and found three bottles of weed and feed "concentrate" (which covers a whole 100sqm haha). i bought it in 2019 or so very cheaply (think it retailed at $9ish and i payed $3 as the labels were buggered as another bottle near them was leaking).

It was standard weed and feed so mcpa and dicamba base - not something you would risk applying to buffalo as dicamba will kill it.

Thought I would use it on the verge as its been neglected for 15 years but i will retic it next month now the bore is in. 70% broadleaf weed coverage - all of which are species i have dealt with in the upper lawn with buffalo pro in previous years.

Applied weed and feed 3 weeks ago and it honestly did SFA - it showed signs of working only on some of the largest ones but more critically the smaller ones didn't get enough herbicide on them, only benefiting from the urea and potassium nitrate which makes up the feed component of the mix that ended up in the soil.

How did it go on your lawn MF?

All the bindis killed (which is what motivated me to get it) and most other weeds as well. Unfortunately despite claims non buffalo grass weren't be affected, it killed much of the grass as well.

Ended up with a near totally brown back yard but the lawn slowly took hold again and ended up with a less weed infested lawn -for a while. Unfortunately still couldn't walk bare foot for a long time as the physical Bindi spikes were still everywhere and they really hurt for such a tiny thing. Like stepping on glass shards.

I don't regret using the stuff as the lawn is still much better than the desperate situation before, but no miracle worker. Only use when there's little to lose.
