Hi ODK members,

This is not my every-day mower, but it remains a favourite.

It is the smallest cylinder mower in the world!
It comes from Chatam Toys, a USA company that is really railway specific.
I think it (the toy) demonstrates the impact the reel mower has had on the world. And what a mower!

The machine is VERY small [look at the ruler scale in the picture].
I think it is based on an English machine - inspired by Ransomes, Shanks or Greens.

I am told the pattern maker trained as a watchmaker and it was made using all lost wax castings.
To my knowledge, the limited run has all been sold.

All very collectable.

Hi Jack, and Wow! What a little ripper! That is miniscule.... shocked

I can see the affinity with watchmaking with the main drive gear...but the art of lost-wax casting is more the realm of jewellery or even more, the trade of a Dental Technician, which is my actual trade qualification, having been apprenticed to my father, who was a Dental Surgeon in Brisbane, and my career in the RAAF for 20+ years.

We used the procedure to cast chrome-cobalt dentures, (Durallium) gold inlays and crowns and VMK thimbles used in Crown and Bridge work.

Your cylinder mower represents the finest example of the lost-wax process.
Just beautiful, Jack and an artifact of which you should be justly proud. wink
