QUALCAST 14 INCH Royal Blade - c1958 - 16/10/17 12:01 PM
Hello ODK History Lovers
The Qualcast Royal Blade De-Luxe was a 14" powered reel mower that sold here from late 1958.
This was part of the modernisation of designs that the Qualcast Group undertook at this time ... with
the new rotary mower designs and the need for lighter - and cheaper - power reel models.
The Main feature was the modern styling. With plate steel frame, pressed steel components,
and tubular steel handles, this was a mower that sat lower and weighed less than the antiquated
Qualcast 16" power mower that dated from the inter-war years. Look at that wrap-around 'kidney'
fuel tank ... Just Brilliant!
The second features was the 'Duo Clutch' - two clutches - one for starting; and one for the landroll.
Nothing ground breaking there by this time.
A feature worthy of note was the outboard recoil starter ... quite novel! This machine was powered
by a JAP 80cc Model 80 2-stroke engine.
