Hello ODK history lovers

It seems to be a common childhood experience
that many families had a child that was given a
toy lawnmower as a birthday or Christmas gift.

The toy was inevitably gender specific.
Toymakers traditionally targeted girls with beauty,
kitchen and other household toys; boys with
transport [boats, ships, planes and trains],
war [guns], workshop tools and … garden toys.

It’s only now that I recall that I was given a toy
lawnmower – a toy rotary with bright red engine
and yellow base [the Tecnico colours!].

Did you have a similar experience?

The prompt for my ‘repressed memory’ was the
finding of toy reel lawnmower plans in the British
Woodworker Magazine of December, 1960.

I wish I had the skills to make this little one. Alas, I don’t.
Maybe you do?

PART TWO – The Article with plans
This magazine is from my collection and it is in
great condition.

It’s a three-page article with plan illustrations.
As always, I make it available to nerdy members
for viewing or as a quality download.

Maybe you’re the chosen one – that will make
this toy from these sixty-plus old designs …
