Hi,

I recently purchased a GT-2000 Cox (1972 model). It is missing the dual pulley that fits on the engine shaft, so without that I have zero chance of getting it running again. I've been told that other early Cox and Greenfield might provide suitable replacements with a bit of modification of drive belts. Problem is I have no idea what the original dual pulley looked like or the diameter of the two pulleys. The original part number is 2007 but is no longer available. If anyone has an original or can send me details of the original, or suggest a suitable replacement, please let me know. I am sure just about any manually operated dual pulley off an early Cox or Greenfield would do the job, even if I have to change belt sizes. I have the parts manual for the GT2000, but the drawings are very basic and give away few details about the parts.

Hi vm,
I'm guessing you might have to google rideon mower wreckers near you and see what they have as long as you have a rough idea on diameters and lengths they should be able to come up with something

G'day vm,

If you have no luck here finding anything, you could look on a Facebook group as there is a fan club for
Cox mowers.

https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=252297092358963&set=ecnf.100072436562849

The GT 2000 looks good but just be careful of the Wise guys on Facebook when you mention Cox ,A little like mentioning Bendix on a Facebook bike group or King Richard spanners on a tool group.

Cheers
Max.

Hi vm,
I had a later model Cox dropped here today with a broken piston so I can measure up the pulleys when I get the motor off. Your GT, does it use the cone drive setup?

Sorry VM ,
I can't help this one has a single pulley, there must be a double pulley further back to drive the cutter and drive cone

Thanks Norm and Max,

Yes, cone drive set up, heal/toe.

I got on to a big old cast iron one, but it is too wide between the pulleys. A local bearing place tell me they can easily match up pulleys to suit once I know the correct dimensions. I would not be surprised if it is the same pulley that was used on the Rover HD25.

I left a message on the vintage Cox ride on page on FB, but I notice their page has not been updated since 2019. I doubt anyone is home.

Ok vm, I wonder if the one I have here would be the same, good chance it would be. It has the pulleys under the cone drive, is that how yours is set up? Top pulley is the cone drive and the bottom one is the cutter drive. I can see if I can measure these if you think it might be similar

Thanks Norm, That would be greatly appreciated. Yes the top pulley is for the cone drive, A section. The bottom pulley is the larger one and for the cutter drive, B section. I reckon the gap between them would only be about an inch or a bit over an inch. They seem like they must run pretty close together.

The original specs say that the cone drive belt is a V23. The cutter belt is a B55. How does that match with your model?

Sorry v-m the mower has gone now, the bloke wanted it back in a rush so I had to rush to get it finished in a hurry. From what I did see I think it would be the same pulley setup so that might give you another avenue of options. This one was a Colt Stockman so I'm guessing any of the Colts using the cone drive setup would be the same

Hi Vm,

If the vintage Cox ride on page on FB, hasn't been updated since 2019 ,that doesn't sound good for info.

There are a few Vintage mower groups you could try on FB or just put an ad on FB Marketplace asking for any
info with a pic of the mower ,I've seen others do this with results.

I had a Stockman years ago and found it to be an excellent machine.

Anyway, the dual pulley I have already (too widely spaced) has the following diameters:

A Section: 3-1/16" O.D.; 2" I.D.
B Section: 5-1/4" O.D.; 3-3/8" I.D.

I'd say the inside diameter is the critical measurement.

I think this pulley size would work only the pulley I already have is far too wide between the pulleys. Once I commit to any measurements it could be a very costly exercise going to an engineering firm, especially if they turn out to be wrong, so I will wait a while to see if anyone else can provide original measurements for the GT-2000.

Cox mowers have replied, only to tell me they cannot help. They only have crude had drawn sketches from that time and no specific information. Just goes to show, a lot of these early mowers were put together on the fly without any actual design plans.

Hi v-m,
Yes they are a good machine, rugged and everything on them is repairable and replaceable. This bloke is a mower guy and uses the Stockman to do a few jobs every couple of weeks. It was a bit tired in quite a few places so I fixed up all the little problems and I told him that as long as he keeps up the maintenance on it it will keep going for years to come

Hi v-m,
I had a chance to look at the Cox again and as best as I can measure both pulleys are about 150mm in diameter and the space between them is 40mm Hope this helps

Thanks Norm,

That doesn't sound right for the GT-2000. It would have had one small and one large pulley. Thanks for checking in any case.

Hi v-m,
Yes it did surprise me I expected different sizes. I didn't really check the engine pulley I just pulled it off the old motor and put it on the new motor but I guess it was about 100 in diameter. As far as I could see the belt went directly from the engine pulley to the rear pulley so the cone would have been rotating slightly slower than engine revs
