Hi all, just wondering what you guys do with these annoying long shaft PTs that come off Tornado's, have accumulated a couple and never seem to find good tornado bases.
I've seen a few on other brand bases ,a Makita rear discharge was one ,for all the messing about to get the motor to fit it's probably quicker to change the crank to the short one.
I have had to re-ring a couple over the last while to fit on Tornado bases where the motor has been straight fueled. You could use them on the standard bases but you would need to use spacers to lift the motor up the same as they did with the Briggs on the Victa bases
Interested to read more about fitting the short crank, if that's a possibility I just might look in to that as a way to make a fresh new-ish engine for my PT utility
I thought about spacing up the engine but don't go much on the muffler not reaching its hole, unless there's something I'm missing
Yes the muffler not reaching its hole is a problem when lifting the motor and the height adjuster link from rear axle to front axle must clear the motor ,then you need a base that's mostly flat on the top to get all the engine mounting bolts in.
Cheers Max, seems straight forward enough. Have to wonder how the chinese PT fairs up compared to the legendary Aussie PT.
I have an old utility with a blown head gasket that sat in the weather for 20 years, when i pulled the cord it spat water at me from between the head and block lol, just have to decide if i can put up with looking at the late model PT sitting up on spacers or take the time to strip both engines and put the short shaft in the late model PT
If I was doing it I would just press the centre of the blade carrier down 20mm and that would lift the blades up the 20mm, just might put the crank nut close to the ground
Hi Norm, sounds good but I don't trust myself enough for that, carrier would end up wobbly I can imagine it now! 😂
I put a head gasket on the utility yesterday, cylinder had a few marks but that's life, to my upmost surprise after sitting god knows how long full of water it fired up on the first pull and ran like a new one not even a puff of smoke
Hi aitchey, I have pressed quite a few over the years and not had any issues except having to open the centre hole up slightly with a dremel after pressing it. I have had to do it for various reasons, people wanting to use them as scarifiers , even one bloke wanted to fit Victa blade carriers to a ride on mower. Good to hear you got another F/C up and running they are a beautiful motor when running well
